No matter what an owners group looks like, one of our greatest challenges is engaging with them. All too often we hear complaints at the annual general meeting that owners don’t hear anything from one AGM to the next or that owners have no say in the management of their home.
The strata committee is granted broad powers to make decisions for the owners corporation between general meetings but is often criticised for not communicating or asking the opinions of owners. We and the committee typically respond that owners should read the minutes or attend meetings but, in this day and age, many owners want to contribute but simply don’t have the time to do so.

In recent years we have developed a survey tool so committee members can seek the views of owners. We have also developed several templated owner surveys that can assist the committee in forming the direction of the building, capital upgrade works or changing the levels of services.
