Australian government RET (Renewable Energy Target) scheme for households
The Australian Government is creating a financial incentive to install small-scale renewable energy systems, by reducing upfront installation costs. Eligible small-scale renewable energy systems include solar PV, wind and hydro and solar water heaters and air source heat pumps. A small scale technology certificate (or STC) is equal to 1 megawatt hour of renewable electricity either generated or displaced by these systems.
Households are eligible for ‘bill relief’ if they are the primary electricity account holder or another named account holder on the electricity account.
In most cases, the discount will be applied automatically and quarterly by the electricity provider from 1 July 2023.
Mosman Council Apartment & Strata Savings Program
The aim of the program is to improve sustainability while reducing the cost of living & greenhouse gas (GHG) pollution.
Annual strata fee reduction is a major focus, because the savings potential with energy upgrades is typically a good investment. So analysis will be on the numerous opportunities in common areas.

The Energy Savings Scheme (ESS) provides incentives to install energy efficient equipment and appliances in NSW households, with the aim of delivering cost effective energy savings of 9.5% in 2023 – increasing to 13% by 2030.
Incentives include upgrading fluorescent and halogen lighting in common areas to LED lighting, converting carpark ventilation fans to carbon monoxide sensor systems, and retrofitting gas hot water systems to electric heat pumps.

Sydney Water is offering an obligation free remote assessment, based on receipt of your water bill.
City of Sydney – Smart, Green Buildings
City of Sydney is aiming to help strata save on the cost of running and maintaining their buildings.
Participating strata plans receive:
- Energy and water assessments – NABERS rating.
- Energy Action Plan with recommended improvements.
- Tailored advice and on improving waste management and recycling.
- A WaterFix program by Sydney Water, if the building meets certain criteria.
- Access to webinars, resources and opportunities to connect with people in other buildings through our leadership network.
North Sydney Council – Futureproofing Apartments Program
The program assists strata buildings with free sustainability assessments.
